Guess Cofounder Resigns After Being Accused of Sexual Harassment

Guess executive chairman and cofounder Paul Marciano has resigned from his position with the brand after being accused of sexual harassment. This announcement follows news that the company appointed investigators to review claims of sexual harassment and reached settlements totaling $500,000 with five separate accusers.

According to the filing, “allegations against Mr. Marciano included claims of inappropriate comments and texts and unwanted advances including kissing and groping.” It also revealed that “on certain occasions, Mr. Marciano exercised poor judgment in his communications with models and photographers and in placing himself in situations in which plausible allegations of improper conduct could, and did, arise.”

The filing also said that investigators interviewed more than 40 people and dove into more than a million pages of documents and emails.

While Paul will be replaced by his brother Maurice, he will continue to remain on the board of Guess through the end of his contract, which expires on January 30, 2019. He will receive a salary until then as well.
